stuff we never notice

By stonecat

Last night before bed I took  Boofy out. The moon was not quite full, but it was so bright I thought about the line in The Night Before Christmas that goes “the moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the luster of midday to objects below.” It was almost like daytime and it gave me kind of a creepy feeling. I saw the shadows cast by the moonlight on the pine trees right in front of my feet on the snowy street. The brightness must have something to do with the reflection of the moon on the snow.

I’m 52 years old and have lived here in the same place for the last 12 years. I can’t imagine that I have never seen anything like this before and that leads me along the path to another point. Do you think that you can see the same thing many times and not notice it until some moment that was “meant to be” or is it random?

Maybe just an “inquiring mind” will lead one to more visual adventure. That is sad for people who are sad or depressed, or just preoccupied with daily junk who walk through “the amazing” without noticing. That leads me to another thought about degrees. We are all probably like that to a certain degree. When we are sad or preoccupied we miss the good stuff that comes our way. Which brings me to Love. You know how beautiful the world is when you are in the throes of new love. The air is fresher, butterflies fly past you, puppies and babies are exceptionally cute and the one you love is stinky or clumsy and is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.

So I guess last night was just a bonus for me and I’m glad that I was jostled just right by where I was to notice moon shadows on the snow. Thanks.
